You’ve been writing this, but it’s not quite right. You can do better!

I’ve been working 7 days a week (ok, not yesterday, I had a ‘funny feeling’ all day which my husband called a ‘hangover’) on a new global English program for millions of students (gasp! literally) and it’s an honor to say you’ll find out more about it in October! I have a team of 10 people who take my ideas and content and apply them to all kinds of groovy platforms. This is a huge challenge and I LOVE it. It’s crazy to think that people all over the world will be learning with me very soon! So I’m going to keep this short, as I have a team meeting in a few minutes…

But enough about me. Let’s talk about YOU. There’s one thing you’re doing in your emails which most likely sets the wrong tone with your international clients. You can do better. Do you know what that line is? It’s this, and I see it all the time, and it’s a rough translation of the typical Dutch way of ending an email.

‘I hope I have informed you enough.’  Or the more formal version, ‘I hope I have informed you sufficiently.’

This works really well in Dutch culture. But not when you’re navigating international waters. I’ll tell you why. This tells your reader that you are pretty much done with them. That you hope it’s enough information. Door closed.

But…
What if it’s not? What if your reader still has a question? How are they going to feel, knowing that you are done with them?

They will feel less than lovely, I assure you.
Please keep that door of communication open. At all times!

This is what you should do:
Write ‘Should you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me.’

Ah, door back open.
See? This one change lets your reader know that you are still there for them and encourages them to stay in communication with you. They will love you for it, believe me!

So keep that door open and keep talking and writing!
